Apple announces Mountain Lion OS X, the merge of iOS and OS X is near

Today Apple shocked us all by doing something foreign: announcing a major OS X release with no rumors, no speculation and no keynote. Out of the blue, Apple let the cat of the bag by announcing it’s current desktop OS’s successor: Mountain Lion. OS X 10.8 dubbed Mountain Lion is going to be just like the upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard,  small but affective. Likely to be priced at $29.99 for a summer release, Mountain Lion features the best from iOS 5. The most important being the new notification center. Just like in iOS 5, you click a button on your status bar and boom, your notifications pop up. 10.8 also includes great new features like iMessage for Mac (which you can download today in a beta form right from Apple), Notes, Reminders and a share feature in Safari. If you’re interested in more, hit up the source link for more infomoration on the new desktop OS.

Note: Mountain Lion is available today for Mac devs but it will not run on Intel Core 2 Duo machines. Sorry Macbook Air owners! 😦
